Should you download ROMs from Hexrom?
Whenever you look at any thread talking about the safety of Hexrom[3], there will always be positive and negative reviews of the website.
For instance, here is a review of a user DemianMedina:
“Just tested it, and yes I got the content I was seeking. So yes, it’s legit. Remember to use an adblocker or you won’t have a very good experience browsing unknow sites.”
On the other hand, here is a comment by SpiralDJ on the same thread:
“Stay away. While you might get the ROM, another tab will also open and download an iso titled with the same name as the ROM. The iso is in fact a trojan virus called energy.exe. I almost lost my PC to it.”
Our analysis is that you should install antivirus software on your device and download only those ROMs that you have full confidence in. You can visit several forums about the emulators or ROMs and get an idea of whether it is working. Not to mention the legal and ethical implications involved while downloading them.
Just follow the precautions like using an ad-blocker, running regular antivurus scans on your device, and first, getting an idea about the ROMs or emulators beforehand will definitely protect you and your device from harmful trojans.
